Here are a few questions we are asked the most:

Q: What’s your minimum order quantity? Can I have one of something?

“There are some items like large posters and exhibition stands, which can be produced as one-offs. Business cards and leaflets just aren’t cost effective to print individually. But, if you let us know what you’d ideally like, we can work around your budget.”

Q: I’ve been offered some last minute exhibition space – can you print quickly?
“Of course. Business cards, posters, leaflets and some brochures can be printed rapidly. The sooner you let us know the better, but by working together, there’s always something we can do.”

Q: Why do you have unusual job titles? What exactly is a Print Evangelist?
“Why not have a funky title? It helps us stand out from the crowd. The name, ‘Print Evangelist’ is simply a great way to express our enthusiasm for providing great quality print and helping our clients.”

Q: Do you just print brochures and leaflets or can you print promotional items too?
“Absolutely, our order book is varied. We print umbrellas, mugs, pens through to signage, large graphics and exhibition equipment. We love a challenge – so the more unusual the better.”

Q: Why should I use a company like Essential Print Services when I can get business cards for free off the internet?

“There’s nothing wrong with buying free print off the internet but what impression will that give to your potential customers? You get what you pay for but, quality doesn’t have to mean expensive. So, before you confirm your order with a faceless internet print provider, call us for smarter, better, fresher print.”

There’s no such thing as a silly question, only one that is not asked, so if you have a question for the Print Evangelist or Print Angels, simply email printangels@essentialprintservices.co.uk

Derby Printer Runs Ramathon

Posted on: June 16th, 2017 by Jilly Rapley No Comments

On Sunday 4th June, Yvonne, together with a team of runners, took on the Ramathon challenge – 13.1 miles through Pride Park, Derby’s city centre and Elvaston Park to raise money for the Me & Dee Charity.

The Me & Dee Charity provides holidays by the seaside in Mablethorpe, which cost £200 per family. They offer families – who may have a loved one living with a life limiting condition and an uncertain future, the chance to spend time together. With a private beach hut and individual support for life-limiting conditions, the focus is on ensuring that the time spent together is enjoyed and made memorable.

Yvonne said, “I have been a supporter of Me & Dee for many years. Maria and the team work tirelessly to help and support hundreds of individuals and their families. On behalf of the team and the charity, I’d like to thank everyone who made a donation – it will make a big difference but, we are still a long way off our target so, please, donate as much as you can.”

Maria Hanson MBE, the founder of the charity, said, “We are thrilled that so many people have chosen to join forces to support the Maria Hanson Foundation. Having set up the charity eleven years ago and since helped more than 2,000 families, it is clear that there is a real need for families and friends to get the chance to make special memories when time is limited. The money raised will have a significant impact on people who need this opportunity now and we are very grateful for their support”.

6 Super Print Tips

Posted on: April 26th, 2017 by Katie Fitzpatrick No Comments

1) Printing is like chocolate – make it last and enjoy it
If you’re going to invest time and money in producing a brochure or leaflet, don’t include information that may give it a short shelf life unless the piece is being produced for a one-off event. Avoid ordering hundreds of brochures only to change your telephone number a couple of weeks later.

2) Design & text – Less is more
Unless you’re printing a fact sheet or catalogue, let imagery and graphics do all the talking and keep text to a minimum. From our experience, customers prefer to browse and look at pretty pictures than reading endless amounts of text.

3) Pictures paint a thousand words
Just because you have a camera, doesn’t make you David Bailey. If your images are poor quality, choose a professional. This will save you time and achieve the best results. If you don’t know any good photographers, we know plenty!

4) Show me the paper! Request samples.
Any credible print company will be happy to provide you with paper samples free of charge. We have our very own swatch books, which are available free of charge, you simply need to ask us for one.

If your order is being digitally printed, then most of the time, you can request a printed mockup on the actual stock before you go to print. This way, there are no nasty surprises. Sometimes, there might be a small fee for this but if your order is worth a lot to you, then it will be well worth it.

5) Order the essentials
Essential Print Services was created on the firm belief that you should only use and order what you need. OK, it doesn’t cost that much more to get double the quantity. But if you don’t send out the extras, then they are a false economy. It makes us very sad when we hear people say, “I ordered 1000 flyers but 500 are sitting in a cupboard and are now out of date”.

6) There is no such thing as a silly question
If you’ve received a quotation and you’re unsure about the weight of paper or technical information, ask! Be certain about what you will receive. There’s nothing more disappointing than working hard on a lovely looking leaflet and expecting it to arrive on a heavy card but, it arrives on paper.

If you need advice or ideas, now or in the future, call us. We’d be delighted to talk to you or your contacts. What may be daunting or boring for you, is fun and exciting for us. So, make our day – and give me a call on 01332 418377.

Derby Printer Celebrates Best Month!

Posted on: April 4th, 2017 by Jilly Rapley No Comments

We Are Celebrating Our 6th Birthday And Best Month Ever!

The brainchild of ‘print evangelist’ Yvonne Gorman, Essential Print Services already boasts an impressive business record for so young a company, with a staff and year-on-year sales growth.

Not only that but Yvonne herself is already a renowned business figurehead. Named as one of a handful of “Leading Ladies” in the local press, Yvonne has appeared on ITV Central News, visited No. 10 Downing Street and continues a national appointment as Small Business Saturday UK Champion.

It’s been a roller-coaster ride for the past six years, but, according to Yvonne, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Yvonne says: “I can’t believe the business is six years old! We’ve achieved such a lot and what better way to celebrate than with our best ever sales month – it is perfect timing. The Essential Team’s hard work is paying off. People keep telling me that print is dead, but I’ve seen no evidence of this – we just keep continuing to grow and I can’t see it stopping anytime soon.”

“In March we absolutely smashed our sales target and achieved our best month EVER! It was a phenomenal way to celebrate our 6th birthday. I certainly could not have achieved all that by myself. A round of applause must go to Lee, Katie and Jilly for their hard work and of course, to our amazing customers who support us on our journey,” said Yvonne, owner of Essential Print Services.

Yvonne counts one of her biggest successes in the past year as finding her ‘dream team’. Lee Johnson has been heading up Essential Print Services’ studio for just under a year and is responsible for checking the hundreds of client files a month to ensure the best possible end, for which the company is renowned.

Katie Fitzpatrick joined the business as a “Print Angel” and helps Yvonne to look after Essential Print Services’ loyal customer base by providing fantastic customer service – the hundreds of testimonials they receive is a testament to this.

The most recent appointment was during National Apprenticeship Week in March this year when Jilly Rapley joined the business as a Print Assistant. Yvonne will be working with fellow Pride Park business; Babington Business College, to help Jilly complete her apprenticeship and the newest recruit has already made a big impact on the business.

“Having the right people in your business is crucial. They need to understand that outstanding quality and amazing customer service is paramount. Printing is hard work and some jobs are technically challenging so, what is also important to me that I’m part of a team who can fun in the office and enjoy what they do. There are days when my face aches from laughing so much,” Yvonne Gorman adds.

Yvonne also continues to work hard in her role as part of the Small Business Saturday UK campaign, for which she was appointed one of only 10 ‘champions’ in the country for the third year running.

Her business ethos isn’t just about financial growth: she is also a driving force behind several not-for-profit business groups in Derbyshire, including Derby Hub and the Hallmark Group, as well as being a trustee of the Me & Dee Charity, which supports children and adults with life-limiting illnesses and military personnel suffering from PTSD. Essential Print Services is also proud to sponsor Derby’s iconic half marathon, the Ramathon for the fourth year running.

She says: “I feel both privileged and proud to have created a sustainable business that not only employs local people but that supports many other East Midlands firms, as well as my local community. I am so excited about the future of my business and can’t wait to see how my team develops.”

“I’m also thrilled to be able to prove that, despite setting up in the middle of a recession and with the strong digital competition that the print industry now faces, printers can thrive and that Essential Print Services is one of them.”
