Downing Street Invite For Yvonne

Small Business Saturday

It’s not every Friday you find yourself in Downing Street shaking hands with the Chancellor George Osborne – but that’s just what Print Evangelist Yvonne Gorman was doing on the eve of the UK’s first-ever Small Business Saturday.

Yvonne explained: “I was thrilled to be flying the flag for Essential Print Services and Derbyshire. I had the chance to speak to the Chancellor, and Enterprise Minister Matthew Hancock, about the challenges facing small businesses today.”

Yvonne was invited to a Downing Street reception after featuring on the Small Business Saturday Facebook Page. The initiative was championed by Chuka Umunna, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, after he saw it working brilliantly in America through encouraging people to spend money with smaller companies.

“SBS is such a brilliant idea. It casts a spotlight on small businesses and celebrates how important they are to the UK economy,” said Yvonne. “Do you know that if every sole trader in the UK took on just one member of staff unemployment would be eradicated? It was great to hear the Government ministers promising to make it easier for small businesses to access funding, grow their companies and create new jobs.”

Yvonne enjoyed chatting to the other businesses that attended about how business networking and social media have helped her to grow Essential Print Services since she launched in 2011.

Yvonne said: “I am delighted that I’ve been able to create two jobs so far – and I’ll soon be recruiting a third team member.

“I predict that 2014’s Small Business Saturday will be bigger and better than ever – so if YOUR company would like to do something special next year – we’d love to help.

“We can’t promise you a trip to Downing Street to meet the Chancellor, but we can offer you some innovative ideas on how to market your business.”

Essential Print Services’ Owner, Yvonne Gorman, heads to Downing Street

Derby business owner, Yvonne Gorman who runs Essential Print Services on Pride Park, will be flying the flag for the city of Derby at 10 Downing Street on the eve of the UK’s first-ever Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday (SBS), on December 7, has been chosen as a day to champion, celebrate and support the UK’s 4.8 million small businesses, which employ 14.1 million people and turn over £1,600 billion. The idea began in America three years ago to help small firms survive competition from bigger rivals and has cross-party support.

Yvonne (31) was invited to the Downing Street reception after she featured in the SBS Top 100 – a countdown of 100 firms, featured one a day, on the SBS Facebook Page.

Yvonne said: “I am thrilled to be going to Downing Street and representing all Derbyshire’s fantastic small businesses. I’m hoping to get chance to share all the great things about Derby: its central location, its skilled workforce, its quality of life and its ambitions.

She added: “Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity for companies to promote themselves. Small businesses are crucial to Britain’s economic recovery and it’s great that this is being recognised and celebrated by the Government and all political parties.”

Yvonne has more than 14 years of experience within the print, promotional and exhibition industry. Her team works with companies across the UK providing quality, cost-effective promotional materials.

Championing Derby and its small businesses is important to Yvonne. She is a Marketing Derby Bondholder and was one of the driving forces behind pridepark.net – an online directory for all Pride Park businesses. Her company is also heavily involved in the local business networking community.

Yvonne explained: “I specialise in helping small businesses and start-ups to decide what printed materials they really need and what can wait until they are more established. It is important to me that they get every bit of value out of their promotional materials so I’m happy to offer free meetings and advice.”

“Anyone who is determined enough to set up their own business deserves every assistance we can offer them.”
