The Print Angel

Meet Your Print Angel

A Print Angel is someone who is enthusiastic about exceptional service, has high standards of quality and someone who thrives on making professionals look professional.

Laura has always had a strong customer service ethos and always wanted to work with companies to take their customer service to the next level in order to improve their reputation and ultimately, their front line. Laura has headed up service centres nationally for Bensons for Beds and internationally, for Kingsdown, improving customer satisfaction and retention by ensuring that these large companies do not lose their small business mentalities.

Laura enjoys getting out and about to meet new people within Derby’s thriving networking community. Still relatively new to the networking scene, just over a year in, Laura brings a fresh perspective and a high energy to networking events. Laura is involved in a number of networking events and groups, including helping to run the Derby Networking Club – so if you’d like to come along to the next meeting with our Print Angel, give her a call on 01332 418377.

Do you have a nickname?
Yes, The Print Angel, of course!

Would you bungee jump?
No. I would definitely sky dive, but there’s something about bungee jumping that makes me very afraid!

What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Their eyes and their accent.

What was the last ‘tune’ you bought?
Brokenhearted by Karmin. Check them out on YouTube if you’ve not heard of them!

Who’s your hero?
Without question, my Dad.

What’s your favourite food?
Tricky.. I’m a bit of a foodie. Probably grilled Sea Bass.

Where is the furthest you have been from home?
North Carolina, USA. And it was absolutely fantastic.

What’s the least favourite thing about yourself?
I am dangerously and somewhat embarrassingly competitive to the point where none of my family and friends want to play board games with me. Oh dear…

What’s your favourite printed item?
Business Cards! I love the varying styles and designs. I’m fascinated by the Business Card culture in Japan. The presentation of a “meishi” (business card) in Japan is much more formal and ritualistic. I also have a special place in my heart for a Spot UV finish.

Do you have a special talent?
I’m not sure you’d call it a talent, but my party piece is doing ‘Ice Ice Baby’ by Vanilla Ice on the karaoke.

Do you have Twitter?
Yes! I love Twitter. It’s @ThePrintAngel. (Our company Twitter is @essentialprint – check it out for news, reviews and competitions!)

Any pearls of wisdom?
I’ll share one of my favourite quotes. “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t; you’re right.” Henry Ford.

Derby’s Print Evangelist

Print Evangelist Yvonne Gorman

A Print Evangelist is someone who is enthusiastic about the print industry, a print perfectionist and someone who sees creative potential in all print projects.

It takes many years of experience to gain enough knowledge to become a Print Evangelist, but with 17 years under her belt, owner of Essential Print Services, Yvonne Gorman, can safely call herself just that;

“What I love MOST is knowing that the items I have printed are working REALLY HARD for my customers. To achieve this I discuss my clients’ requirements and help them plan what they really need.

I find out who their print is aimed at and how to get it to the right people. I can help work out postage costs and the all-important follow-up to any mail shots.  I can suggest some ideas you might never have considered.

Free Print Audit. If you, or a contact of yours, wants to check that they’re getting the best value for your printing, give me samples of all your existing literature and I’ll give you a comparative quote with ideas of how to reduce costs AND improve the effectiveness of the products.”

Yvonne Gorman Challenge

Yvonne is a fully-fledged entrepreneur of a Pride Park-based business, Essential Print Services. She produces creative and effective print work at affordable prices, with quality service. She works with some of the most high profile SME’s and start-up companies within the local area, helping them make the most out of their marketing budget.

Over the past 15 years, Yvonne has worked for a variety of design agencies and print houses. She always had an hands-on approach for print work but also had an influence in the sales strategy for each of these employers. “I can honestly say Yvonne has all the attributes that make a successful entrepreneur: flare, confidence, focus, a desire to impress when responding to enquiries and orders, a willingness to help others, good leadership and most of all a hard working ethic. In a relatively short space of time she has started a business and established it as well known for quality service. She is also generous with her time and effort supporting others in business and the locality in which she works; a real asset to our Derby business community.” commented Martin Jinks from Nelsons Law.

Yvonne is also one of the founder members of Derby Hub, an organisation formed and owned by local business people to foster the growth of and collaboration between local businesses. Its twice monthly meetings are occasions where business knowledge and ideas are exchanged freely in a friendly and relaxed setting. ‘Hub’ is another of those ‘little gems’ that makes Derby a good place to live and do business” Martin added.

The beginners guide to brochures

Posted on: February 6th, 2014 by admin No Comments

At Essential Print Services we get a lot of requests for brochures. Personally, I love brochures – there are so many options. When designing a brochure, you first have to decide on a weight of paper – you don’t want the paper to be too flimsy as this give could a bad image of your company. When the paper is quite thin, the print can show through to other pages. Also, do you want the paper on the covers to be heavier than paper used on the inside pages?

Special finishes can make your brochures stand out from the crowd. Picking out a few graphical areas on the cover in a Spot UV varnish, can take a plain looking cover and turn it into something really special. Alternatively you can gloss laminate or matt laminate the outside pages for durability. Special finishes work best because they draw the customer in.

Another thing to consider when designing a brochure is what you want to achieve from creating it? And how will you measure the brochure’s success? Do you really want to spend money on marketing your company if you’re not going to measure how successful it is?

One-way to do this would be to see how much your enquiry level increases. Sending out a personalised letter with the brochure may increase the success rate too. Planning a follow up campaign will help convert prospects into customers – this can be done by a telephone campaign or e-shot, or both.

The size and weight of your brochures may determine what format to go for. Think about how much your brochures will cost to post out. If you want hundreds distributed at once, ask your print supplier for a quote to send them for you. They may have preferential postage rate (we certainly do).

If you’d like to print a brochure or sit down with a Print Angel to discuss your ideas further contact us on 01332 418 377.
